Amma
They will forget everything she ever did for them. How she would stay up late until they were all home. How she would wait until they were all served before sitting down to eat. Or how she would fast so that they may pass an exam or get a good wife or not get chicken pox. They will remember what a good cook she was and how they miss her food.

Am going to call my amma right now!
*Warm Hugs* to you.
very nice :) this is more like it, especially after those kubrick-like "water, terribly, sleep" stories!
Am learning NOT to take my mom for granted, since moving out... but still had a quick flash of guilt when I read this quick tale. Nice work, Ammani. :)
hey i am going to miss my mom.....that was a good work...
Its one of the undeniable truth. Everyone laments only about the food. But, I feel, along with it everyone laments for the other comforts from "Amma" inwardly.
You know, this is exactly what my mom says..:)
Wow! Brilliant!
mothers are always adorable aren't they! that's quite a moving post
Ammani, You Rock!!
AF
How true ! Guess we need more blogs like this to keep reminding us !

touching and hitting the bull's eye....keep going...
In hindsight, atleast the food reminds them about their mom..right?

I cannot empathise with this.... sadly...
how typical of us to use 'kezha mozhies' to justify our 'murpokku seendanigal'.... wonder about what
ancient sanskrit quotes tell us about who is the luckiest woman... i suppose it would
be a lady who departs for heaven before her husband!!! i think that that would supersede her achievements as a good cook!
food from your mother, sex from your wife.... so is this what it is all about.... why
shouldn't it be let us say.... a women who gets a sensitive husband is the luckiest
person in the world or well... i thought of something to do with orgasms... well i hope
you know where i am going...
'ayya kezha mozhi avargale'... if you do want to read stuff which was purportedly written
ages ago, at least try reading someone like mahakavi bharathi. you might not understand
the rage which he feels at the way women are treated in our society, but at least
(and luckily for him), he is not here to cringe at the how far back into the past the
indian male has progressed since his time.
instead of trying to justify your living in the past (based on the truth of anonymous
sanskrit quotes), try to get up early one morning and cook (maybe) some semia upma
along with a glass of filter coffee for your mother and your wife... then they might
consider themselves as truly 'koodathuvaithavargal'....
I used to always feel that your writtings should get published. When I saw TJSwami's comment...ennakkum athae feelings :))

Been mostly a silent reader coz all i could comment on ur post is the same old "brilliant" :)
But this one was really touching!! Cant help commenting! Awesome!!
I cant agree with this! Its not only food which remainds u of mom but also love which remainds her.
Sad that many ppl told it is brilliant.
Thoughtful post. But I'll add myself to that list which is a complement of this post. I do remember my mother for more things than her cooking (and her cooking too!)
Mother of mine you gave to me all of my life to do as I please without your love where woudl I be"Mothersweet Mother of mine".Love theses lines and ur write up too.
Not assured.
this one made me cry...
Probably for my mom and her sacrifices, and how I still do not acknowledge them.
Good one, ammani. You are brutally honest.
