Death of a friend
You've just found out that your classmate from school was one of those killed in the attack on World trade Centre some years ago. You rack your brains to remember every detail about her. She was dark, thin, of average height. Did she wear glasses? Probably. You do recall her voice. Nasal. Nothing singularly remarkable to deserve such a high-profile death, you think. But the next time September 11th events are mentioned, you say 'I used to know someone who died in the attacks. We were such good friends'.

Damn, Ammani... you're way too observant for comfort :)
the world is filled with hypocrites, with those who give so much importance to vanity, ego, and false image and with those who survive with double standards, with those who care more about their 'social status' and would go to any length to showcase their importance...
it's revolting to see such people..
if i disagree with that observation will i become a hypocrite ? I think you are strecthing the limits here ammani !!!! may be some WILL sadly say they knew some one (and be proud internally that they knew some one who died in that tragdy) ..
Ouch again !
ur post and mine on sept 27th deals with death. When we are affected its still worse ammani
Anyways, why is hypocrisy such a bad thing? I relish it.
And what's wrong with being hypocratic or anything else or that matter? The only pukable thing is failure ;)
I do not think this is hypocrisy.
Death ennobles the people around.
Enemies praise each other. `He was a good man' or `She was a generous human being'...befits the occassion, maybe more than the character of the dead person.
In tragedies such as Sept 11, people try to form their own invisible lines of connection to the event to keep the memory fresh. Nothing wrong there.
hypocrisy!!!..that age-old vice...reminds of Maugham's quip, "Hypocrisy is the most difficult and nerve-racking vice that any man can pursue; it needs an unceasing vigilance and a rare detachment of spirit. It cannot, like adultery or gluttony, be practiced at spare moments; it is a whole-time job"...
