It's " the benefit of the doubt" as in " give somebody the benefit of the doubt" that is accept what someone tells you even if you're not sure he's right or telling the truth.
By starting this note "I haven't a bloody clue 2..." you've created a paradigm shift in our approach at our ignorance... Thus, Paradigm Shift is a change from one way of thinking to another. It's a revolution, a transformation, a sort of metamorphosis...;-)

Bother. I DO know this one. You give someone "the benefit of the doubt". Saying "benefit of doubt" is false economy! :)
