I read this post with mounting anger. I wish to do something - don't know what though. I want to act quickly before my anger turns cold. What can I do to help?
I would take a picture of everything "donated" by the lady and publish it in the leading newspapers with her name and address "thanking" her for the thoughtful donation. It will cost some money for the ad space, but it is worth it for the lesson it teaches such haughty people.
That's an excellent suggestion. Except perhaps get some friendly media person to highlight the "donation" in the papers, and thereby save money on the ads.
Send her a sarcastic note of 'Thank You' and return the goods saying there aren't enough people to accept the gifts like that which are of high worth. But if she is thick skinned, as it seems, then she might not notice the sarcastic tone of your reply.
Teaching her a lesson should not be the main agenda. Projects like CRY are already spreading much required awareness.
Do not react .. but respond.
Whatever your retaliation is, it must reach the roots of society and inculcate a habit of responsible donations. The message must not only be directed to the woman being mentioned but also to many others like her.
1. Highlight the achievements of children under the care of CRY and prove that they are no less or no different from our own. So don't give them rubbish to play with. 2. Motivate more people to join CRY.
I am a regular reader of your blog and because of you, i am motivated to gift new toys to kids. I hope I put this thought to action.
I've come to realize that you are a film-maker. Perhaps you could make a short film on the flip-side of charity, highlighting such incidents. I completely agree with the first anon's suggestions.
Hmm...........that sounds interesting..........a movie of how a donated broken toy is given away and how it actually ends up in a situation where a full toy could have saved a life..... i can imagine the scene rather clearly.... a broken toy ending up in a factory and falling into an cutting/lathe machine and breaking and causing an accident.... :P
Thank you everyone for your suggestions! But I was not looking at reciprocative action. I was thinking more along the lines of doing something positive. Showing how it's done. How it SHOULD be done.
I may have something ticking. Please bear with me while I think this through.
Ooooooo! I like L'Etranger's idea! Better yet, all these news stations are always hankering for a good story. Call oone of them up and ask them to do an expose on this issue!
As for doing something positive, have a donation drive, get your family and friends involved and send it all over to Project Why along with bokex of patries, goodies, chocolates and other yummies to brighten up a child's moment...
This is the reality. We have very few people on this earth who are kind and could think well. My brother-in-law who is a Doctor and a social worker requested other doctors to help in his social activities during a doctor's meet. Every other one said that he is willing to help and requested to be informed. On a real time situation, when my BIL wanted few more doctor's help, it was found from their wives that they had gone for an emergency call. Again two said that they could not come but sent a gunny bag full of medicines. When my BIL and his friends tried sorting out they found that those medicines had expired and were of no use.
Those who have heart to help, do not have wealth. Those who have abundant wealth, do not have the heart to help. People like us need to understand, and I think probably we are here to make a balance. What to do? We need to keep it going.
If I had been in that position, probably I will put it straight, by sending a decent letter to say that the kids deserve a decent gift than those sent and make them understand that.
sumthin constructive u say ammania? well then, let the charity organisations get a bit of attitude abt what they accept and what they dont. against a condition that if u donate absolute junk, u will hv ur pretty face posted online...or the local newspapers.

I would suggest dumping everything back, maybe on her lawn. That would teach her.

It should be sent back to her-at once. Rage, pure and boiling.
